Animal health is inextricably linked to the composition and function of symbiotic microbial communities. These complex relationships have important implications for threatened species conservation and management, particularly in the face of global biodiversity loss and climate change. As a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, I am exploring how reduced genetic diversity impacts the microbiome and culminates in greater disease prevalence during population declines.
